Welcome to Farmington Hills

September 3rd, 2010

Farmington Hills in Michigan is simply the best place to call home. There are quiet neighborhoods, nationally recognized schools, and more than 800 acres of publicly held parks and campgrounds. They are also an international community that fully embraces its diversity. Companies from all over the world have chosen this area to do business, and because of this, many of the residents in the area speak more than 80 different languages. And, yet, it is still the classical old-fashioned town, with a rich history all of its own.

Farmington Hills also has to its credit several locations for celebrating the arts, including City Gallery, located in the lobby of the Costick Center, the Farmington Artists Club Gallery, also in the Costick Center, and the Nature Center located within the confines of Heritage Park. The exhibits constantly change, and feature local and touring artists, as well as innovative media art exhibits from all over the world.

Heritage Park is located on the west side of Farmington Road, near Ten and Eleven Roads. There are 4.5 miles of trails for hiking and nature study available, and the Studio-Stables building hosts local art exhibits weekly. During the winter, the trails provide excellent grounds for cross-country skiing, and when spring arrives, the park swells with visitors playing volleyball, skating and other sports. A fully staffed Day Camp for kids is also a popular family experience.

The Nature Discovery Center is a joint venture between the city and school system, it features a floor-to-ceiling diorama of life in Heritage Park, including trees, wildlife, and its beautiful pond. There is also a hands-on area for kids, with aquariums and viewing areas so that children can safely interact with the area’s creatures. There is also an on-site computerized lab for microscopic examinations of samples and weather forecasting.
